Michigan's Harbaugh Bridges Gap

There have been sleepovers, tree-climbing, a tip-of-the-hat tweet to creative Michigan State fans, a thinly-veiled tweet defending his recruiting approach, classroom visits, lots of selfies, and now there's a made-for-livestream event, “Signing with the Stars.”

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff have aggressively recruited and will see their payoff Wednesday when the national signing period begins. They are ushering in the new class with an invite-only charity celebrity function on campus at Hill Auditorium, sponsored by the Players' Tribune and including guests like former Michigan and Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady and future baseball Hall-of-Famer Derek Jeter, founder of the Players' Tribune. In data provided by Ann Arbor-based Joyce Julius, which analyzes and measures all forms of media, during a 90-day period that ended in mid-January, Harbaugh had 46,521 total mentions in Internet articles, television programs and print stories. For comparative purposes, Alabama coach Nick Saban, whose team won the national championship, had 72,152 total mentions, and Patriots coach Bill Belichick had 66,546. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer had 40,336, while Lions coach Jim Caldwell had 24,722.
